Greetings fellow readers! Its that time of year again, fall, which in the book world means the release of some great books. Fall has traditionally been an awesome time for discovering books by our favorite authors or even finding new favorites. Today I'm going to talk about some recently released books that I'm either excited to start reading or am in the middle of reading right now.
Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach
The best part of this book, in my opinion, is the fact that Chad is from Racine
so it's always great to see a Wisconsin author do well. This author has actually done more than well, he's done extremely well. Art of Fielding has been one of the most anticipated novels of this year and without a doubt Harbach delivers. I would compare this to a mix between the Natural by Bernard Malamud and Holden from Catcher in the Rye. Fielding tells the story of a talented young man, Henry, who knows his future consists of staying in his childhood town and working in a metalwork shop. When an older college baseball player spots him at a game he decides right there this kid has to play baseball with him in college. Living away from home, surrounded by students his own age is a completely new concept to Henry and this novel is the perfect example of what the college experience can be for an overwhelmed teen. This is a must read for book lovers and makes a great gift as well.
Maid by Kimberly Cutter
Joan of Arc is one of the most important figures for not just women's history but for world history in general. Joan lead an army after teaching herself how to ride a horse as well as fight as well as any man and inspired many after her with both her faith and determination. Maid is a novel recounting the early years of Joan, life with her family and stuck in an arranged marriage. This novel shows how a young peasant girl could go from a quiet country life to saving her country. I read about this book months ago and it has finally arrived, it's already on my stack ready and waiting and I know it won't disappoint.
Midnight Rising by Tony Horwitz
I have been veyr impatiently waiting for the release of Horwitz's latest book; this one focuses on the man who basically started the Civil War, John Brown. In Confederates in the Attic Tony decides to become a Civil War reenactor and explain the war through their eyes. In Midnight Rising he decides to go more into what happened leading up to the full fledged fight and how one man decided it was his duty to undo slavery. When Brown decided to gather together others like him and do a raid on Harpers Ferry our history was never the same. Horwitz is once again able to take something that can be as dry as history ( sorry history buffs!) and write about it in a way that everyone can read it. ( My picture of the cover won't work, sorry everyone!)

So my goal next week is to talk about 2 more titles I'm very excited to see on our shelves, White Truffles in Winter by N.M Kelby and the Beekman 1802 Heirloom Cookbook. We'll see if I have enough time to make my goal!
