Hi Readers,
This winter and spring seem to be an especially exciting time for movies based on books which then renews interest in the books that inspired the movies. Just look at how many of the Oscar nominations started out as books!
The Stieg Larsson trilogy has jumped its way back onto the bestseller lists with the release of the USA version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. There's a lot of clamor for the paperback edition of the third installment, Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, which will be released on February 21st. Although, if you finish the second, I don't know how you can wait for the third, there's such a cliffhanger at the end.
Based on the early reviews of the film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, you're better off reading the book by Jonathan Safran Foer, which is well worth your time.
Hugo and its book forebear, The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick, are both visually stunning, an all-ages delight!
Customers who stop by the store having just watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy say that it can be confusing to follow what with all of the plot twists. Why not read the book by John LeCarre before you watch the movie, it may be just the thing to help you get all of the flashbacks and characters straight in your brain.
Have you seen the new Hunger Games trailer? My heart starts pounding hard whenever I watch it because I know what's in store for Katniss and Peeta. Have you read the book by Suzanne Collins? It's one of the few books that my 16 year old brother, my mom, and I all enjoyed. My brother and I have plans to go to the midnight showing on March 22nd, although not together. I am NOT allowed to go to the same theater as him.
One for the Money was just released on the 27th. Janet Evanovich has created a lovable character in Stephanie Plum, her imperfections are not written for literary effect, but for the reader's entertainment.
The second season of Game of Thrones is set to air on HBO in April. Matt says it's an excellent adaptation from the George RR Martin book of the same name. If you're in to fantasy as a genre and haven't read A Song of Ice and Fire series yet, you're missing out.
And now, a book that will, hopefully, soon be a movie:
BZRK by Michael Grant comes out February 28th. It's already been optioned for film because it is seriously exciting and reads like a movie. We'll shelve it in the teen section, but the three of us on staff (not teens) who have read it devoured it in hours. It's world domination at the nano level.
Happy Reading!
Hannah
